What an interesting day it was yesterday at work. I installed Windows 2003 SP2 on a server, rebooted it, and guess what….BSOD. It made my heart sink. Out of the 6 years I’ve been doing this type of stuff for a living….this was the FIRST time I ever had a BSOD after a Windows SP install…as a matter of fact…it was the first BSOD after any Windows Update install. Maybe I have been lucky…who knows….but it did suck. Anyways, I tried loading the last known good configuration…and again BSOD. I was able to get into Safe Mode successfully which made my experience less stressful. I did have a full backup of the server so I was not worried about data loss…but I just didn’t want to deal with all of that. Anyways, I repaired the installation using the Windows 2003 cd and guess what…it worked! Now I’ve installed Windows 2003 SP3 on 11 other servers at work but have no clue why this one failed. Maybe it was just a bad download or something.
