Microsoft Outlook –  Mapisvc.inf – There was an error locating one of the items needed to complete this operation.  It might have been deleted.

Ok..so I installed Microsoft Office 2003 on a brand new computer with Windows 7 installed.  I then configure Microsoft Outlook…and lo and behold…..a freakin’ error.  It said There was an error locating one of the items needed to complete this operation.  It might have been deleted. I didn’t receive any errors during the install so …wtf??  A quick Google shows I need to delete a file called Mapisvc.inf.

Delete the file Mapisvc.inf from C:\Windows\system32 and delete it from C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAP\1033

Try creating a new Outlook profile and it should work….it worked for me!

Thank you for this obscure tidbit. I had to downgrade Outlook 2k7 to 2k3 to import an old file type and ran into this issue (amongst others). With this I was finally able to make a new profile which in turn resolved all my other problems.

    I miss Lotus Notes… :(
