IE – Internet Explorer crashes when typing in Google search bar / Disable Google autocomplete

I’ve noticed this problem for a while but recently it’s been annoying. Annoying to the point that I decided to look for a fix. Maybe it will help you.

Problem: IE (Internet Explorer) crashes when typing a certain letter/letters in the Google search bar within Google.com.

Cause: In my case, it appeared to be the Google autocomplete feature within Google.com.

Fix: Instead of going to www.google.com, try www.google.com/webhp?complete=0. The latter site disables the Google autocomplete feature. The catch is, it only disables Google autocomplete for that IE session/window. If you have Google set as your homepage like I do, then set your home page as www.google.com/webhp?complete=0 instead of just Google.com. As long as you go to your homepage and search, you’ll be set.
