0×0000005 Google Chrome Error Symantec Endpoint Protection
- 18 Comments... What do you have to say?
Aw, Snap
Well I downloaded and installed tried installing Google Chrome yesterday on my buddies pc. We got the famous 0×0000005 error that is sweeping the Internet by storm. After a quick Google via IE, it apparently has something to do with Symantec Endpoint Protection….which my buddy and many many many other people have. Here’s the kicker….some people are actually suggesting uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection completely…..that’s a pretty really stupid resolution. Others suggest uninstalling the Application and Device Control install from SEP but my buddy didn’t even have that install so I’m not buying it. There’s also a temp fix which in fact does work…but I’m not sure what, if any, negative affects it causes….but here it is if you want to at least give Googlew Chrome a try…
1. Right-click the Google Chrome icon on your desktop (NOT the downloaded installation file…but the icon it created once it installed).
2. Go to properties
3. In the Shortcut tab…go to end of the Target section …the Target section should say “C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe”
4. Place a space right after the last ” and type –no-sandbox
5. Click Apply and OK and Google Chrome should work…..
6. FYI….I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong by doing this….I just know that it worked for me as a temporary fix until either Symantec or Google officially comes out with a fix….so do this is YOUR OWN RISK.
Update:
***Symantec says this issue is fixed with Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) Maintanence Release 3 (MR3)…..but many say it still doesn’t fix the issue. It’s worth a try if you have the time and patience!***

This information was very useful. Thanks!!
It Works! But it is also a security glitch, check: http://groups.google.com/group/google-chrome-help-troubleshooting/browse_thread/thread/1f07597381e63a02
yeah…hopefully google or symantec come out with a legit fix
Thanks for this tip – it solved my error also.
during the install process it downloads a tiny EXE then goes to the internet for the rest of the files. google chrome has problems with any personal firewall type software such as zone alarm in my case. my zone alarm prompted me about 4 times to allow access by google installer.
It’s not working for me.
I have Windows Vista SP1
wow! it really worked! thanks alot ^_^
After six seven months of trying ever since they released Chrome, it finally worked… Thanks man…
(lol @ the disclaimer! I won’t sue if something goes wrong!)
