NET SEND in Windows XP
- 1 Comments... What do you have to say?
Have you ever tried doing a NET SEND to an XP machine and it didn’t work? That XP machine might have Service Pack 2 installed. My default, the messeneger service is disabled on XP Service Pack 2.
Do the following to enable the messenger service:
- Start button
- Run
- Type services.msc
- Scroll down to the Messenger service
- Right-click and select Start
If you want like the messenger service to start automatically after every reboot, do the following:
- Right-click the Messenger service and select properties
- In the general tab, select Automatic for the startup type
- Click Apply and OK

It appears to be OFF in Windows XP SP3 also.
