NET SEND in Windows XP

Have you ever tried doing a NET SEND to an XP machine and it didn’t work?  That XP machine might have Service Pack 2 installed.  My default, the messeneger service is disabled on XP Service Pack 2.

Do the following to enable the messenger service:

  1. Start button
  2. Run
  3. Type services.msc
  4. Scroll down to the Messenger service
  5. Right-click and select Start

If you want like the messenger service to start automatically after every reboot, do the following:

  1. Right-click the Messenger service and select properties
  2. In the general tab, select Automatic for the startup type
  3. Click Apply and OK

It appears to be OFF in Windows XP SP3 also.
